How to Use YouTube
YouTube is a website that allows users to easily post their videos for others to see. Since YouTube videos are viewed all over the world via computer and mobile device, it is easy to share videos with people and often videos “go viral”, or – in other words – people refer their friends to them and they end up being viewed by millions of people. Viewing videos on YouTube is fairly simple and uploading your own videos isn’t that much more complicated. You can learn to use the YouTube website effectively with just a little bit of practice.
Viewing videos is as easy as going to the YouTube website and typing in a search term. Videos are sorted based upon the title and the descriptive keywords, or tags, that the uploaded included with them. You have the option of watching them at different resolutions, and the resolution that you choose determines how quickly the video loads for you. Videos are also easily embedded on other websites, so you will often find them in places other than the YouTube website, and are also indexed in video directories like Google Video.
You have several options if you create an account with YouTube. First, you can save videos as favorites, like bookmarking websites that you want to come back to. You can also create playlists of videos, if you find several that you would like to watch without having to start each one individually. Also, YouTube included related videos, or the next video in a series of them on the sidebar, and on the screen when the video you are currently viewing has ended. Also, users can comment on the video they are watching as long as they have a YouTube account.
You can also upload your own videos if you like. Video bloggers post on YouTube and often gain followers that regularly watch videos, and school plays, musical and concerts is also a common sight. Videos of aspiring musicians, either performing their own songs, or covering another artist are some of the most prevalent YouTube videos out there. Uploading a video is fairly simple, if you have the file on your computer’s hard drive already, and YouTube supports a wide variety of formats, and recently has allowed HD videos as well.
The interface is simple. You just click on the upload button and select your video. It can be HD if you want, and up to two gigabytes in size. However, the maximum length that YouTube allows is fifteen minutes with few exceptions.
YouTube also allows you to record a video directly from your webcam if you want, and don’t need to do any editing to it, and you can easily share your video via your social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Orkut and MySpace. YouTube is an international phenomenon that is now a part of popular culture all over the planet.
