How to Use YouTube

-

YouTube is a website that allows users to easily post their videos for others to see. Since YouTube videos are viewed all over the world via computer and mobile device, it is easy to share videos with people and often videos “go viral”, or – in other words – people refer their friends to them and they end up being viewed by millions of people. Viewing videos on YouTube is fairly simple and uploading your own videos isn’t that much more complicated. You can learn to use the YouTube website effectively with just a little bit of practice.

Viewing videos is as easy as going to the YouTube website and typing in a search term. Videos are sorted based upon the title and the descriptive keywords, or tags, that the uploaded included with them. You have the option of watching them at different resolutions, and the resolution that you choose determines how quickly the video loads for you. Videos are also easily embedded on other websites, so you will often find them in places other than the YouTube website, and are also indexed in video directories like Google Video.

You have several options if you create an account with YouTube. First, you can save videos as favorites, like bookmarking websites that you want to come back to. You can also create playlists of videos, if you find several that you would like to watch without having to start each one individually. Also, YouTube included related videos, or the next video in a series of them on the sidebar, and on the screen when the video you are currently viewing has ended. Also, users can comment on the video they are watching as long as they have a YouTube account.

You can also upload your own videos if you like. Video bloggers post on YouTube and often gain followers that regularly watch videos, and school plays, musical and concerts is also a common sight. Videos of aspiring musicians, either performing their own songs, or covering another artist are some of the most prevalent YouTube videos out there. Uploading a video is fairly simple, if you have the file on your computer’s hard drive already, and YouTube supports a wide variety of formats, and recently has allowed HD videos as well.

The interface is simple. You just click on the upload button and select your video. It can be HD if you want, and up to two gigabytes in size. However, the maximum length that YouTube allows is fifteen minutes with few exceptions.

YouTube also allows you to record a video directly from your webcam if you want, and don’t need to do any editing to it, and you can easily share your video via your social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Orkut and MySpace. YouTube is an international phenomenon that is now a part of popular culture all over the planet.

How MySpace can Promote Your Music

-

MySpace is a social media website that works extremely well for promoting music. If you are an aspiring musician a great way to gain a fan base and get your music heard, particularly if you have your own music recorded, is to create a MySpace web page and put your songs on it. It may seem a far-fetched notion to get a record contract or gigs with a MySpace page, but actually it is not unheard of. There are artists that are on the radio today that first appeared on MySpace. Colbie Calliet, who reached the top ten with the song “Bubbly”, is a perfect example.

MySpace works well for musicians because it allows people to post songs as part of their profile. In fact, you can create a MySpace page specially for your music. Just click the sign up button to begin.

After creating a profile, which is easy to do from the MySpace website, with four different choices as to what kind of page that you want to create: a personal page, a page for a musician, a page for a comedian or one for a film maker.

Signing up is extremely easy, just requiring you to fill out your first and last name, choosing a password and entering your birth date and email and typing in the verification text and choosing your gender.

There are a few differences when you are creating a personal page, or a page for one of the other MySpace artistic disciplines. For instance, you will still be required to type in your name, but instead of asking you for a first and last, it asks you for your artist name, as well as what genre of music you play or sing, and if you are on a label.

Once you have signed it, MySpace gives you some unique tools that will help you to promote and track music. For instance, the Artist Dashboard tells you how many people have viewed your profile and how many total plays your songs have gotten as well as tracking friends and daily song plays.

Another great feature that MySpace provides to help you promote your music, is a specific section on the sidebar that allows you to list upcoming gigs or shows that you have coming up. This allows those that are fans of your music to find the next place that you are playing and be able to check you out – possibly including, depending upon your talent, record executives.

The best part about creating a MySpace musician’s page is that you can add your own music to it, which allows anyone visiting your page to hear you play or sing.

Another great way that MySpace allows musicians to get discovered is by allowing you to connect with other musicians. Whether you need band mates in your area, or simply want to find some like-minded musicians to hang out with and discuss music, MySpace is the perfect place to connect with them, making it easy to find and add friends in your genre and from your geographic area.
